The South Okanagan Junior Coyotes had disappointing results at the weekend’s Atom Fiesta in Osoyoos, but participants seemed happy nonetheless.
The local team finished seventh overall in the regular schedule Friday and Saturday and then lost their only playoff game Sunday.
Spokane beat Cranbrook 5-2 in the final game Sunday afternoon to claim the tournament championship. Fernie finished third overall.
The tournament was the 40th anniversary of Atom Fiesta and the opening ceremonies drew a large crowd.
When the tournament got underway, the Junior Coyotes landed a whopping 9-0 beating on 100 Mile House, who ended up in 14th and last place.
In their Saturday morning game, South Okanagan lost 3-0 to Fernie, who took the top spot in the C group.
A game against Williams Lake Saturday afternoon ended in a 5-5 tie.
In their first and only playoff game Sunday, played at noon in Oliver, South Okanagan fell to Mission 7-3.
“It went really well,” said Brianne Hillson, manager of the Junior Coyotes, referring to the event itself.
Many teams were back from last year, she said.
