If you’re against the Town of Osoyoos borrowing $3.5 million to reconstruct the sewer main lift station on Kingfisher Drive and 89 Street, you have until Feb. 19 to voice your concern.

The total cost of the reconstruction project is $5,989,000, with construction taking up most of the costs ($5,136,000).

The balancing funds will come from the Town’s sewer reserve and operating funds.

The Town will use existing sewer revenues and funding from the Okanagan Basin Water Board to pay for debt servicing, so no additional charges will be levied.

As required by the Community Charter, the Town needs to complete an alternate approval process (APP), giving residents the opportunity to oppose the decision to borrow the funds.

Anyone opposed to the loan can sign an elector response form, available at Town Hall.

Electors must be over 18, a Canadian citizen, have lived in B.C. for at least six months and Osoyoos for at least 30 days, or have owned property in Osoyoos for at least 30 days.

The deadline to submit elector response forms is Feb. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

If 10 per cent of Osoyoos’ electors, estimated to be 4,210, sign a form stating opposition to borrowing the funds, town council will not be able to proceed without going to referendum.
