The Anarchist Mountain Fire Department’s (AMFD) annual silent auction was successful in raising over $15,000 this year with over 90 items up for bidding. All the proceeds will go directly towards the AMFD and will be used to upgrade their equipment and for training.
The money raised this year was nearly three times the amount raised last year, which was approximately $5,300.
After a massive fire like the Nk’Mip Creek wildfire, a fire department’s resources are often quite drained, according to Brenda Arychuk. The funds from the auction are necessary to the department as they go towards replacement equipment, other current needs, as well as supporting specialized training.
This year’s bidding items were donated by an array of community businesses including many wineries, Home Hardware, local golf clubs, and Spirit Ridge. One of the biggest items was an all-inclusive trip to Las Vegas.
“The success of this auction is the result of a huge community effort. Whether you supported by bidding in the auction, donating an item or sharing the event with your friends… we could not have done this without you,” said an AMFD facebook post.
