Canada Border Services Agency officers stopped a 50-year-old man from Spokane, Wash., at the Osoyoos port of entry on the evening of Oct. 12 after an officer allegedly found child pornography in the man’s possession.
Cpl. Mike Field, a spokesman for the Osoyoos RCMP, who were called in to assist with the matter, said an agency officer ended up conducting a search when the man was attempting to enter Canada in a vehicle at about 5:10 p.m.
The search revealed that the man was allegedly in possession of images on his cellphone that could be child pornography.
The cellphone, as well as discs and printed materials in the man’s possession, were seized by agency officers and have been turned over to the RCMP’s technical unit for further examination, Field said.
The man was held in custody on the night of Oct. 12 and released on a recognizance to appear at a future court date.
Field said the man had not yet been charged as of press time, but he could face charges of possession of child pornography.
Field was not able to provide a description of the man’s vehicle.
The Osoyoos Times was not able to contact the Canada Border Services Agency for more details before press time.
