When Grade 7 teacher at Oliver’s Senpaq’cin School, Lisa van den Munckhof, assigned her students to answer the following question, Nolan Cook wrote a response that serves as a good reminder for everyone – to take a step back and enjoy life.
Q: If you could go back a year and give yourself a piece of advice, what would that advice be?
A: If I could go back and give advice to me, I would tell myself to do more things that I want and less things other people want. I would do this because I don’t like the world we live in. The way things go is just weird. I think the way you’re expected to act, think and do a lot of stuff is dumb. I also think that life is too complicated and that things should be more simple. I think that we need to take a step back. I don’t think life should have to go so fast. I think people need to go at a slower pace. So I think my advice to myself is to stop dealing with people and take time to stop and do stuff I want to do. The thing is though, I don’t need to go back to give myself advice, I can do that now.
