Derek Uhlemann from Covert Farms makes a mean chili dog.

That’s why he won the “top dog” contest at Thursday’s Uncork the Sun in Oliver Community Park.

Uhlemann upset last year’s winner Jeff Van Geest from Miradoro Restaurant. Van Geest had to pull out of the competition at the last minute, but was replaced by his protege Amanda Gagne, who made a spicy dog with chicken pate and hot green peppers.

For wine lovers Meranda Elliott and Leah Weins, the event was heavenly. They have attended Uncork the Sun every year since it started in 2000.
