On February 2 the Southern Okanagan Secondary School Enrichment Fund Society celebrated its 20th year of incorporation.

The first directors of the society were Janet Shaw, Jack Frank, Roger McKay, John Echlin and John McCarthy.

That same year the society organized its first fundraising golf tournament at Fairview Mountain Golf Course.  Over the past 20 years new directors have volunteered to serve on the board and their contributions have been appreciated.

The golf tournament has continued to be generously supported by corporate sponsors, the board of directors of Fairview Mountain Golf Course, management, members and the community.

The big winners are the graduating students from SOSS that are awarded scholarships to pursue post-secondary education.

This year the society has committed a total of $17,000 to more than 20 deserving students. We have awarded approximately $300,000 in our first 20 years with 400 students receiving financial assistance.

The directors of the society are volunteers from our community, who utilize the professional administration of the Vancouver Foundation and the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan for the actual fund management.

We provide scholarships based on a secure endowment fund that will guarantee awards every year. The board is committed to preserving and increasing the size of the capital endowment.

We are pleased to receive donations from class reunions, alumni, families, trusts and in memoriam gifts. All amounts big or small are appreciated.

Our 20th annual SOSS Enrichment Fund Society golf tournament will be held at Fairview Mountain Golf Course on April 11-12.
