Spring is showing itself with the daily sunshine and warmer temperatures. People are walking around smiling again. Main Street is full of parked cars and pedestrian traffic. The shops are again displaying their wares in their front windows.
The Art Gallery has also changed their window displays for spring. During March the gallery will have a Double Feature of art exhibits. The ongoing monthly themes, display Mixed Media art this month. These are canvases with more than one ingredient for a medium and will often have layers of different materials used in the creations. These methods have been used more and more in modern times, but do go back to the great masters and even the ancient cave painters.
It is quite fascinating to see the unique use of several mediums to create maximum texture and three dimensional images. These effects give the paintings life and values of depth.
The second feature during March is the art of Christine Buchler. Christine is an Oliver artist and works in the Health industry at the local hospital. She and her husband have an ongoing vineyard in Oliver.
Christine was born in Switzerland where she worked for the Red Cross in the Blood Bank. She married and came to Canada setting up a vineyard with husband Hans. Although she painted in her youth, she was inspired be the famous artist Frida in 1999 and since has been painting by concentrating on colours and movement of women and children in her works.
You have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the good weather and the beautiful art at the Gallery this month. The gallery is at 6046 Main Street and open Tuesday – Thursday from 11:00AM to 4:00PM.
Coming up in April the gallery will have a new theme and a new feature artist. The theme will be “Wildlife”. Also the April “Feature Artist” will be Oliver’s own, Cameron Ogilvie who will be displaying his own wildlife and landscape paintings.
See you at the Gallery, where there is no charge to browse but a friendly Artist Host to guide you to enjoy the works of 22 Okanagan Artists.
