Tucelnuit LakeIs Town of Oliver council having second thoughts about its decision to amend its zoning bylaw and allow for five duplexes (10 units) to be built along Tucelnuit Lake in Oliver?

The controversial zoning amendment narrowly received approval from town council at its Oct. 14 meeting.

However, at a hastily called council meeting Thursday afternoon, Town of Oliver Mayor Ron Hovanes opened the meeting with the following…

“At this time, in my role as Mayor, I would like to announce that I require Resolution R-270-14 to be reconsidered and voted on again pursuant to Section 131 of the Community Charter. What I’ve effectively done by reconsidering this, is that I’ve bought this bylaw back to second reading and it is now in a position to be voted on by council.

Earlier this week, as reported in the Oliver Chronicle, it was revealed the Town is facing legal action over its Oct. 14th decision. The petitioners (James and Marion Wyse) are seeking a court order to invalidate the bylaw amendment after two contentious public hearings.

On Thursday afternoon, Councillor Dave Mattes’ motion to have the current council reconsider the resolution at the Nov. 24th Town of Oliver council meeting was passed unanimously.
