Around and around.

That’s what Thierry Martine and Wade Preston did a week ago at Fairview Mountain Golf Club for the annual ALS golf marathon.

The objective was to raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research and treatment. It involved playing as many holes of golf in a single day with people making pledges in support of their efforts.

This year Martine (golf shop employee and men’s club champion) and Preston (assistant professional), along with their assistants, each managed to play 234 holes (13, 18-hole rounds).

Their efforts for this year’s event have raised $9,000 for ALS research.

The following are some statistics from the marathon: Average time per round and per hole – 72 minutes/four minutes; strokes taken, Martine (888), Preston (955); average score per round – 68.3/73.4 (par is 72); under/over par for day – 48/+19; birdies – 69/32; eagles – two/two

Martine won the Carmichael trophy.

During the past nine years, the club has raised more than $90,000 for the ALS Society.
