The Osoyoos Board Game Group is taking its weekly meet-up online and inviting others who may be experiencing the self-isolation blues to join in on the fun.
The game has been meeting Thursdays for about a year in Osoyoos, but given the current state of affairs the group announced they would be moving things online.
“There’s a fair amount of options to be able to play board games online these days. Since we can’t have a regular meet-up, we thought we would do it online and see if we could do it that way,” said organizer Steve Baird.
The regular game nights are an open invite which extends to anyone interested in board games joining online.
What game the group plays depends on how many people show up week to week, but recent game nights have included the card-flipping action of “Welcome To…” the spy-based competitive guessing game “Code Names,” the international railroad building “Ticket to Ride” or the popular “Settlers of Catan” to name a few.
“We’re always open to teaching new games and to help walk people through games,” Baird said.
The group will be conducting virtual board games through Tabletop Simulator (an app available on Steam for a one time payment).
Tabletop Simulator allows groups to get together virtually to play almost any game imaginable. To stay connected while playing the group uses a a Discord server for online chat during game nights available by clicking here.
“If people don’t want to invest in a copy of Tabletop Simulator we have links for other free websites that allow people to play board games online for free,” Baird said.

The first virtual meet up is (tonight) March 26 at 6 p.m.
