The regional district is hosting a public meeting on March 11 at the Oliver Community Centre to discuss sign regulations in Area C and rural Osoyoos.

Staff from the Ministry of Transportation will also attend the meeting from 4-7 pm. Regional staff and ministry personnel will outline the current project aimed at reducing the proliferation of signs in the area.

Sign and property owners from Oliver to Road 21 have been sent an invitation to the meeting, as well as property owners from Road 21 to the US border in Osoyoos.

Since enforcement of the sign bylaw began earlier this year, there have been positive and negative comments. Some people argue that they should be allowed to erect third-party signs on their property.

The end goal for the regional district is lessening the number of signs and improving the aesthetics of the South Okanagan.

Regional staff have noticed the removal of a few signs since enforcement began.

– When the project began, there was the acknowledgement that there would be a review of the signage regulations included in each Area’s Zoning Bylaw.    Ultimately, it will be the decision of the Regional Board to support amendments, if any, including third party signs.
