Dear Editor:
In regards to the school problem in Osoyoos, may I suggest a possible solution. Looking at my tax assessment recently, I noticed that “school” taxes are the largest amount.
It would be nice to know what the total would be for Osoyoos and province wide when it comes to the total of school taxes collected. Obviously the numbers must be enormous and apparently impossible for the government to handle properly.
Wouldn’t it, therefore, be more practical to have it controlled locally?
Since our mayor is in favour of saving our school, why doesn’t the town request or demand that we retain our school taxes so that they may be used properly.
We would not need a school district school board as I’m sure there would be many parents willing to voluntarily sit on a local school board if it meant saving our school.
Just a thought. Thank you for your consideration.
