Dear Editor:

Congratulations to the Osoyoos Times on winning the Ma Murray Award for Best Feature Article (under 25,000 circulation) in the recent British Columbia Yukon Newspaper Association awards competition.

Kudos also to reporter/photographer Richard McGuire for the well-deserved recognition of his spectacular photographs.

McGuire recently finished third in the category of Best Spot News photo in the Canadian Community Newspaper Association national competition for a photo he took during the wildfires that broke out near Oliver and Osoyoos last August.

During a time when many newspapers are shrinking in content and becoming less relevant, editor Keith Lacey and his team have succeeded in making constant improvements to the Osoyoos Times.

It is great to hear that this difficult accomplishment has been both recognized and rewarded.

Also, a word of praise for the public works staff with the Town of Osoyoos during the recently-proclaimed Public Works Week.

The town is emerging into summer boasting a great many beautifully maintained walkways, parks, and well-groomed beaches.

Thank you to our Mayor Sue McKortoff for continuing to impress with your considerable leadership skills and insight into what makes Osoyoos such a wonderful place to live.

Congratulations to everyone for a job well done.

Alice Newton
