Mischief is being blamed for two recent power outages at the Fortis electrical substation in Oliver, affecting the local area.

Oliver RCMP said in a media statement Monday that they are asking anyone with information on the incidents to contact the RCMP or Crimestoppers.

In the morning of March 23, someone threw a metal pole with wiring attached over a fence onto substation wires causing a brief outage.

On Saturday at about 12:30 p.m., a person did the same act causing another outage, which affected Osoyoos.

“The risk of harm to the persons responsible in doing such mischief would certainly result in serious injury or death should they come in contact with an electrical system through the act,” said the RCMP statement.
