The RCMP have arrested a 49-year-old male near Osoyoos on a Canada-wide warrant on a charge of sexually assaulting a young child.

The man was arrested by South Okanagan Traffic Services with the assistance of Osoyoos RCMP without incident in a rural area between Osoyoos and Oliver at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The RCMP said in a media advisory that the arrest followed major road checks in and around Penticton. Through a check on Saturday, June 20, police learned of the presence of the accused in the South Okanagan. The vehicle was uninsured.

South Okanagan Traffic Services then conducted a four-day investigation using surveillance and other investigative techniques, leading to the man’s arrest.

Police did not release the man’s name. He is being transported back to Calgary to appear in court.

This is the fifth warrant executed as a result of road checks this past weekend, the RCMP said.
