The series between the Osoyoos Coyotes and Kamloops Storm is now a best-of-five affair after the Storm came up with an important 4-3 overtime victory Thursday evening at the Sun Bowl Arena in Osoyoos.
The Coyotes had tied the contest at 3-3 with only eight seconds remaining in regulation time as Jackson DeMatos brought the crowd of 300 to its feet with his last-minute heroics.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Dexter Robinson was the hero for the Storm as he scored an unassisted goal eight minutes into the second overtime period to give the visiting team the victory.
The Coyotes captured game one in the series with a convincing 7-2 victory Wednesday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
Blake Halowaty scored the only goal of the first period to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.
Ryan Keis scored early in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 before Troy Maclise scored a power play goal two minutes later to restore a one-goal lead for the Coyotes. Keis scored once again a couple of minutes later to tie the game at 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Brett Watkinson scored an unassisted goal to give Kamloops their first lead of the game – and series – early in the third period.
DeMatos was named the game’s star after scoring the tying goal in the final seconds.
The series will resume in Kamloops for games three and four on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, respectively.
Game five will be played at the Sun Bowl Arena on Tuesday night. If a sixth game is needed, it would be played in Kamloops Tuesday night. If a seventh-and-deciding game is needed, it would be played in Osoyoos next Thursday evening.
