Dear Editor:
The Osoyoos Secondary School Drama Club’s winter theatre production, Humbug High: A Contemporary Christmas Carol, gladly received positive reviews during its performances on December 12 and 13.
The two-act play was about two hours long and took the outstanding effort of about 30 students – 20 actors and 10 backstage – as well as two and a half months of three to four rehearsals per week to make it happen.
Through the hard work and dedication of the cast and crew, a challenging show came together in a very short period of time.
I’m very proud of everyone’s efforts and achievements.
Theatre productions are the club’s only source of funding, as it does not receive money from the school or any other organization. Though attendance at performances was lower than previous years, the club managed to raise roughly $800, which will be put toward its next production. We are deeply grateful for the community’s generosity.
Your support enables students to participate in a unique and enriching creative endeavour.
The process allows for their personal growth and fosters a sense of pride and belonging in the school community. Thank you for enabling that.
The club is also very grateful for donations made by local businesses to its silent auction and concession. Those include: Beyond Beauty Hair and Body Lounge, Home Hardware, Cascade Stucco, Shopper’s Drug Mart, Wander Café and Gifts, Polka Dot Door Flowers, JoJo’s Café, Ella Greek Restaurant, The Juice Box, Troy’s Grill, and The Watermark Beach Resort.
Although I am not teaching at OSS in the second semester, I do hope to continue holding club meetings and possibly stage a new production in the 2015-2016 school year. We hope to entertain you then.
