Dear Editor:
I have reviewed the plans for the new fire hall in the Town of Osoyoos and considered the to and fro on the appropriateness of constructing a hall with an $8 million price tag.
I have no problem with the town getting a new hall, but I am concerned with the huge price tag and the resultant tax burden on ratepayers.
I know its not directly comparable but just 12 years ago Oliver had an engineered building constructed for $1 million with a total cost of $1.5 million once the interior was finished and outfitted. Even if costs have doubled it would only be $3 million today.
Another example is the RD of Nanaimo built a fire hall in 2012 at Nanoose Bay for $3.2 million and the City of Nanaimo has a fire hall in its 2015 budget at $2.4 million.
It appears the town plans for way ‘too much building’.
I encourage electors to attend town hall prior to Oct. 3 to sign and submit the Alternate Approval Process form to just say “no”.
Thank you.
Don Rudzcki
