The Osoyoos Under 11-12 girls’ soccer team wrapped up a tremendous 2014 season by capturing the Pinnacles Football Club (PFC) Cup in their age division in the league wrap-up tournament this past weekend in Penticton.
The local squad went undefeated during the weekend tournament and captured the league title and PFC Cup for their age division by defeating Summerland 3-0 in the championship game.
The victory capped off a season to remember for the local girls, who only lost one league game the entire season.
Besides winning the league title, the same Under 11-12 squad captured the title at the inaugural Pinnacles Spring Cup tournament in Osoyoos in early April.
“We had an amazing season as we only lost one game the entire season,” said head coach Steve Wyse. “We started in early April by winning that kickoff tournament in Osoyoos, where we won despite not even having a full team practice, and we just kept getting better and better all spring.”
Between league and tournament play, the girls lost only one of 15 games, which is very impressive for this age bracket, said Wyse.
“The girls started playing positionally this year and they learned the importance of passing the ball and spacing and they just kept improving all season,” he said. “We also have two dominant strikers with Justine Wright and Emilie Agostinho and our twin towers on defence with Alex Brunner and Manveer Sandhu, who worked together to make sure the opposing teams didn’t get a lot of chances to score.
“It was a total team effort from every one of the girls and it was nice to see all of their hard work pay off by winning the league title.”
Wyse said he’s confident several of the players on this team are going to play at an elite level in coming years and he looks forward to coaching them at the next level.
Team members included Tanisha Gill, Sophie Bissonnette, Jordan Brunner, Manveer Sandhu, Emilie Agostinho, Alex Brunner, Navneet Sandhu, Kaylee Lowey, Caitlyn Robinson, Amber Wyse, Jamie Foste, Justine Wright and Sydney Hanson.
