The Town of Oliver has received information about the provincial government’s new plastics policy.
Council recently reviewed correspondence on the government’s action on banning single-use packaging.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy launched a public engagement survey on reducing plastic waste.
The government is proposing the following: bans on single-use packaging; reducing single-use plastic in landfills and waterways (ensuring more single-use items such as sandwich bags, straws and cutlery get recycled); expanding the deposit-refund system to cover all beverage containers, including milk and its substitutes; and ensuring recycled plastic is re-used effectively.
The public has until Sept. 30 to complete the survey at www.cleanbc.ca/plastics.
