Teachers Steve Podmorow (left) and Mike Russo from Southern Okanagan Secondary School were officially recognized Tuesday for saving the life of a Grade 8 student recently with the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
The student collapsed at the end of gym class, where Podmorow and Russo acted quickly to assess the emergency and perform CPR while using the AED to “shock” the student’s heart back to rhythm. The student continues to recover from the ordeal.
Pictured with the teachers are Dan Kennedy (second from right), public affairs lead for Sanofi Canada, and Gene Creelman, senior VP, member and community engagement for Interior Savings.
