A former Miss Osoyoos has a shot at becoming Miss Universe Canada and she’s asking for Town council’s help.
Gina Pereira, who was Miss Osoyoos in 2013/2014, addressed council at their recent meeting to ask for funding to help her attend the Miss Universe Canada pageant in Toronto in August.
Out of 650 applicants in Western Canada, she was one of 31 women chosen to compete in the pageant which will see over 50 competitors in total.
The winner will represent Canada at the Miss Universe Pageant in the fall.
Out of Pereira’s initial fundraising goal of $6,000, she told council she had $2,500 left and asked for a contribution of $1,000.
“I’ve been paying increments and getting sponsors around town,” she told council.
“I wanted to do local and not so much big companies because I think going to Toronto and saying ‘this is Osoyoos, you should come here,’ I want to showcase that.”
The funds would cover travel costs, training and accommodations.
Council told Pereira that a decision would be made at their next meeting on June 18.
