The South Okanagan Similkameen (SOS) Medical Foundation has received a $180,000 donation from Jim and Marcia Cavin, continuing their annual commitment to the Cavin Recruitment Endowment Fund.
Long-time supporters of Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH), the Cavin’s are champions of local healthcare. Jim served on the SOS Medical Foundation Board from 2014–2019, helping strengthen the Foundation’s goal to meet our region’s growing healthcare needs.
Together, the Cavins have now contributed more than $500,000 to advance medical care in the South Okanagan Similkameen.
“Their support continues to strengthen medical recruitment across our region and ensures more physicians, nurses, and specialists can build their careers and lives in the South Okanagan,” the SOS Medical Foundation said.
In 2024, the couple established the Cavin Recruitment Endowment Fund with a founding gift of $185,000. Their goal is clear: to ensure a sustainable, long-term source of funding dedicated specifically to recruiting new physicians, specialists, and other medical professionals to the Penticton area. With ongoing shortages across many areas of care, this investment is directly supporting one of the most urgent healthcare priorities facing our region.
With their 2025 gift, the Cavins continue moving toward their vision of growing the endowment to over $1 million, creating a lasting legacy that will help PRH attract the medical talent needed to serve patients for generations to come, the foundation noted.
The endowment remains open to additional donors who share the Cavins’ commitment to strengthening local healthcare.
“Jim and Marcia’s continued generosity reflects a deep commitment to the long-term strength of our healthcare system,” says Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation. “Their endowment will have a lasting and meaningful impact on the people who call the South Okanagan Similkameen home.”
An endowment fund with the SOS Medical Foundation is a lasting investment in local healthcare whereby contributions are invested permanently or for a set period, and after one year, the earnings begin supporting the area of care chosen by the donor.
For the Cavin Recruitment Endowment Fund, those earnings will go directly toward recruiting physicians and specialists for PRH. “It’s a meaningful way to help bring new medical professionals into our community, year after year.”
