The BC Wildfire Service warns of elevated fire danger across much of the BC Interior over the next two days as warmer temperatures and dryer fire fuels are more susceptible to ignition.
Members of the public and industry are urged to refrain from conducting any open burning over Thursday and Friday as a result of the elevated fire danger across much of the BC Interior.
Beginning Thursday, May 1, temperatures are expected to climb, creating an environment where fine fuels dry out and become highly susceptible to ignition. BC Wildfire said that in addition to increased temperatures, fire weather forecasters are anticipating strong, gusty southerly winds of 40-60 km/h on Friday, May 2, ahead of an approaching cold front.
“These warm, dry and windy conditions may continue through to Saturday, May 3,” the Wildfire service said recommending the public check their local weather forecast and avoid open fire use until these conditions have passed.
Because human activity is the leading cause of wildfire in spring across BC the BC Wildfire Service asks that everyone do their part to help reduce the risk of wildfire.
