Oliver’s Finance Department just keeps on winning.

John Kurvink, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Connie Magoffin, Deputy Finance Officer accepted the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Achievement on behalf of the entire Finance Department at their March 10 Committee of the Whole meeting.

The town’s department has now won the award every year since 2012.

The award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the town’s annual financial report. This year’s award is for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2023.

“We have been able to win this award multiple years in a row through various chief financial officers, so that is a tribute to the systems we have in place and the people that we hire, it’s good stuff,” said Councillor David Mattes who was chair of the meeting.

The annual financial report is judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to “publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.”

These high-quality financial reports should focus on a “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story.
