The Osoyoos Remembrance Day ceremony returned to the Sonora Centre today for the first time since the pandemic began, filling the venue to capacity.
The indoor and outdoor ceremonies paid tribute to the great sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers in the two Great Wars and those that followed including numerous peacekeeping missions.
Attendees who gathered to pay respects to the many who sacrificed much for the freedoms we enjoy were reminded of the ongoing sacrifices that included the most recent death on Nov. 5 of a Winnipeg-based serviceman who was stationed in Iraq.
Capt. Eric Cheung, 38 was in Baghdad as part of the Canadian Armed Forces’ contribution to Operation IMPACT in support of the U.S.-led global coalition against the militant group ISIS.
Following the Sonora Centre event, a short ceremony was held at the Cenotaph at Town Hall.

A moment of quiet reflection.

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky…”
