While people around the world often line up for major smart phone releases, Osoyoos had its own much anticipated release today – complete with a lineup of hungry fans – with the opening of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet.
The much anticipated opening of the town’s first KFC outlet on Main Street in East Osoyoos took place at 11 a.m. this morning Aug. 25.
Six eager customers were lined up from about 10:30 a.m. and within minutes of the opening a queue of cars for the drive through window was already spilling out of the parking lot onto Hwy. 3.

The title of “first customer” went to Seth from Pitt Meadows. Seth and his boyfriend’s younger sister were stoked on being the first customers.
“I was originally going to show up at 10 a.m. but it’s too hot outside so I thought 10:30 should be fine,” he said. He says he’s been “into KFC for a couple of years” and when he realised one was opening in Osoyoos while he was here, he just had to come for the opening.
When asked why it was important to be here for the opening he explained: “Every time I come to Osoyoos I can say I was the first person that ordered from that KFC!”
It probably also helps that his partner, who aside from working at food outlet on Main St in west Osoyoos, also has some shifts at the new KFC.
For Anna who had arrived at about 10:20, she figured she would stay in the comfort of her vehicle until the doors opened. “I thought I’ll just go and park in the parking lot and wait and then this nice young man and his friend came and they stayed by the door and I thought I better get out of my truck get in line!”
She graciously conceded the first spot to Seth because her priority was much more on the food. For her it was all about the Big Crunch sandwich. “They are so good you won’t go wrong,” she said with a laugh.

For the trio of Jevan, Alex, and Steven – all from Langley – “we just kind of came here for chicken and we were kind of bored,” they laughed. They did admit there was some fun in being there on opening day.
And finally there was a pair of seniors who showed up just before the doors opened, quite surprised that it was opening day.
“Finally we get a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Osoyoos,” said one of the duo. “I used to go to Omak and eat KFC there and then I would go to Penticton but now it’s right here!” she said with much delight.
They reckoned they would take the title of the “first Osoyoos seniors” to order from the outlet.
