Budget amended for airport

Oliver town council has amended the financial plan to accommodate additional costs for airport upgrades.

On July 11, council voted to approve a $27,000 change to the budget to cover line painting and other expenditures. Chief Financial Officer Wayne Anderson reported that line markings at the airport are “almost completely eroded.”

He added that line painting costs are higher than planned due to preparation work and increases in material costs.

Anderson said the total airport operating (expenditure) budget will increase from $115,377 to $142,377.

Council approves DVP

The Town of Oliver has approved a development variance permit at 951 Pelican Place for the construction of a small (160 square-foot) greenhouse.

The applicant sought a variance to decrease the minimum interior side parcel line setback from 1.5 metres to 1.3 metres. This would accommodate the greenhouse addition to a single- family dwelling.

In his analysis, development services director Randy Houle said council must decide if the variance would cause a negative impact on the neighbours. He noted the proposed greenhouse is minimal in height (3.5 metres) and is “unlikely to negatively impact surrounding properties.” Houle said the variance request was reasonable.

Project value totals $1.2 million

Building activity in Oliver last month totalled $1.2 million in value.

The Town reports that $523,000 was spent on a new workshop, $1,000 for signage, and $8,000 for a deck. Another $600,000 was spent on a new single-family dwelling on Copper Road.

Other projects included a pool and deck ($60,000), a workshop ($28,000), and a secondary suite conversion ($1,000).

It was noted that the total value of construction to date this year is $7.3 million).
