School District No. 53 has reported that a COVID-19 cluster has been identified at Oliver Elementary School.

Superintendent of Schools Bev Young said there are currently three confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with this cluster affecting one classroom.

“Out of an abundance of precaution, Interior Health is recommending that students in this class self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms,” Young wrote today in a letter to families.

Provided the students remain asymptomatic, they can return to normal school activities on Friday, October 1, she pointed out.

“If you have not received a letter and/or a call from the school specific to this cluster, this means your child is not considered exposed,” Young said.

The superintendent said these students continue to be supported by school staff with remote learning under these circumstances.

“I apologize for any inconvenience and worry that this may cause affected families and those monitoring cases in the school,” Young said. “The health and safety of students and staff remains our top priority.”

Lesley Noftle, chair of the Parents Advisory Council, said the school is following Interior Health protocol and ensuring that students who may have been exposed are receiving instructions.
