Dear Editor:

In a recent Letter to the Editor in the Osoyoos Times, it was suggested by a local citizen that the proposed new fire hall would act as some kind of social centre for our dedicated volunteer firefighters.

For Mr. Wand to suggest, “The idea of a huge new fire hall is to have a social centre for the volunteer fire department”  is just so disrespectful to our superb volunteer firefighters.

These fine gentlemen put their lives on the line every time they answer a call. They spend hours attending scenes. They train on a regular basis for our benefit.

For anyone who has observed first hand the ability, the knowledge, the professionalism and the concern for victims of incidents, this statement is just so unfounded.

Our firefighters give time away from their businesses and family for more hours than the public realizes.

Perhaps Mr. Wand should have attended one of the recent open houses at our current fire hall to observe first hand the inadequacies the current hall presents and take the time to review the actual facts of the proposed new facility. This is a facility I firmly believe is much needed for the protection of our community and our residents.
