An Oliver man who was the victim of a shooting last summer has offered to build a gazebo for the town.

Wayne Belleville of Belleville & Sons Fine Rustic Furniture approached council last week with the proposal.

“I want to give back to the community,” he said, noting he will build it free of charge, but only asks for out-of-pocket expenses.

Belleville was the man shot by prolific offender Ronald Teneycke last summer.

The furniture maker suffered a damaged spleen that later had to be removed.

Following the ordeal, complete strangers wished him luck, while others gave him cash donations to help him get back on his feet.

His wife’s golfing group raised $1,200 for him.

Overwhelmed by the support, Belleville came up with the idea of building a gazebo for the whole community to enjoy.

He suggested building it in the splash park or Lion’s Park, or in the Town’s new linear park on Fairview Road.

Belleville commented there is really no place for families to find shade in the splash park, so a gazebo would be ideal for this.

Belleville said he is quite confident that some local suppliers would offer the materials needed to build the gazebo at a reduced cost.
