On Monday night at 8:04 pm the Oliver RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 97, just north of Park Rill Rd. Officers arrived on scene to find a black 2002 Honda CRV on its roof.
Ambulance and fire crews were already on scene providing service to the 29-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The Penticton male was subsequently transported to South Okanagan General Hospital where he was examined, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and later released.
Examination of the scene suggested that the vehicle had been travelling northbound on Highway 97, came around a slight bend in the road and started going off road to the right. The vehicle travelled along the shoulder, coming close to a utility pole where the driver appears to have over-corrected, sending the vehicle across the highway, into the oncoming lane of traffic. The vehicle then went off road left, hitting a dirt embankment and a utility pole where it started to roll.
Vehicle debris and contents were spread out over a distance of 300-500 feet. The vehicle is believed to have been a total write-off, according to police. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. Cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Rob Graham from the Oliver Fire Department said there was no fire and no extrication required.
