***Update***

By the time RCMP arrived to the scene at 8:40 a.m. the fire around the vehicle had already been suppressed.

When it was safe to inspect the vehicle police discovered a body inside. Frontline officers with Oliver RCMP are currently partnering with the RCMP South East Major Crime Unit, the BC Coroner and Forensic investigators, who are all on scene.

The vehicle was subjected to such “extensive damage” that the person’s identity has still not been confirmed. The vehicle is described as a Ford pickup truck, but the specific make and model have not been confirmed.

“However there is some indication the vehicle was previously stolen out of Penticton,” according to the RCMP report.

Police have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
