Original story 9:50 a.m.

Today’s rain is helping BC Wildfire crews extinguish the Richter Creek blaze burning 12 kilometres west of Osoyoos.

Crews are now mopping up spots on the south and west sides of the fire where aerial wetlines were established yesterday. Any hotspots found on the northern perimeters of the fire will be direct attacked, BC Wildfire stated.

Rain is forecasted for the rest of the day with temperatures expected to reach a high of 20 C. Winds are expected to reach up to 10 km/h. There is also a risk of thunderstorms.

“Due to the open fuel type in the area, the forecasted precipitation today will support ground crews with increasing the containment on the fire,” BC Wildfire said.

The fire is still 80 per cent contained after controlled burns took place yesterday.

A crew of 91 firefighters and four helicopters will be on scene today.
