Update – Sept. 30,  2:05 p.m.

Police say speed and alcohol are being considered as factors in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 3 near Macguire Road that sent two people to hospital, and has one person held in custody.

A 32-year-old man allegedly fled the scene of the Sept. 27 rollover, RCMP said, and was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Penticton.

“The investigation on the collision is continuing. Alcohol and speed are both being considered as a factor,” said Sgt. Jason Bayda, in an RCMP press release.

A female passenger was critically injured and had to be extracted by the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department and airlifted to hospital. A male passenger in the Chevy Nova’s rear had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

The driver was seen fleeing the area of the rollover on foot, RCMP said, and a search ensued. The driver was found “three hours later, after he emerged from the thick brush,” Bayda said.

Update – 3:30 p.m.:

RCMP have confirmed that one person is in custody after two other occupants of a vehicle that rolled over on Hwy 3 were sent to hospital.

Sgt. Jason Bayda confirmed to the Osoyoos Times the third occupant of the car was located. First responders said the vehicle rolled over on Hwy 3 near the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department station.

Bayda said more details are expected to be released Monday.

Original story – 10:50 a.m.:

RCMP are searching for one of three occupants of a car who fled after a traffic incident on Highway 3 sent the two others to the hospital — one airlifted from the scene.

Urs Grob, Anarchist Mountain Fire Chief, was unable to recognize the make of the single vehicle involved in the incident, but said it was a Toyota car which rolled over off the road.

One person was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, and “one person was transported to the hospital and the third person ran away and the RCMP is searching for them,” Grob said.

The incident happened around 9 a.m., just south of the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department on Highway 3.

“I think the first member was there five minutes after (the incident),” Grob said.

The Osoyoos Times has reached out to the RCMP for more details.
