Oliver town staff is recommending that council award the Station Street reconstruction project to H&M Excavating for $1.3 million.
In a report to council, Director of Operations Shawn Goodsell indicates there was only one bid, but the contractor is “more than capable” of doing the proposed work based on previous experience with the Town of Oliver.
H&M Excavating has been working on the Gallagher Lake siphon repair project and should be “wrapping up” in a couple of weeks.
Goodsell said the company could soon mobilize their crews to the Station Street project if it is awarded to them.
“They have been doing a great job to date (on the Gallagher Lake project), which should transfer over to this new project.”
Goodsell said the reconstruction project includes a storm pipe upgrade, along with sewer and water upgrades. He noted the upgrades should commence in early September and continue into early November.
The project will also bring new sidewalks, lighting and boulevard trees to Station Street. It was previously reported that the parking lot at Oliver Visitor Centre will also see an upgrade.
Goodsell said the storm pipe portion will affect Kinsmen Spray Park, but they will ensure that everything is restored back to the satisfaction of Oliver Parks and Recreation.
As part of the project, the strip of road at the north end of Station Street behind the Oliver Legion will be put out of service (closed) to the public.
Council is scheduled to discuss the tender recommendation on Monday.
