Work should begin soon on several lakefront landscaping projects after Town of Osoyoos council approved a contract that is more than $100,000 less than originally budgeted for several months ago.

Council voted unanimously to support the contract bid from 5 Point Operations Inc. of West Kelowna to complete several lakefront landscaping projects. Much of their work will be subcontracted out to Greenscape Landscaping of Penticton.

The projects include completing the town marina’s lot sloping, building parking lot islands at the marina, finishing the slope at the Fuji Court subdivision, sloping land at the north and south end of the Osoyoos Sailing Club and completing the sheardown slope form Spartan Drive to the marina parking lot.

The total cost will be just under $75,000, while the original tendered price was $178,000.

An invitation to tender was issued on July 16 in accordance with council’s approved strategy of splitting the work for lakefront improvements into four components for separate bidding, said Alain Cunningham, the town’s director of planning and development.

Council will need to approve contracting 5 Point subject to some design changes for work around the sailing club, but no significant price impacts are expected, said Cunningham.

Work should begin within days and be completed within four weeks, he said.
