Town council has said yes to another non-medical cannabis store in Oliver at 5859 Main St., formerly Oliver Rental Centre.
Council gave approval to “The Higher Path” on Monday, nearly two months after approving Bluewater Cannabis (6341 Main Street) and the BC Cannabis Store at 5717 Main Street.
There are two other proposed cannabis retail stores undergoing assessments; they are Interior Cannabis (6234 Main Street) and Tumble Weedz (6276 Main Street).
Randy Houle, director of development services, said nine feedback forms were submitted for The Higher Path application, five of which were in support and four not in support. Reasons for not supporting the application were due to theft, damage and potential decreases in property values.
Houle said the store will reportedly employ four to six employees.
He added that the province conducts extensive background checks and security screenings on each applicant, and has its own inspectors regulate store operations.
“This places less onus on the municipality,” Houle said.
