Town council didn’t take long to approve a development permit for a maintenance facility for sports cars.
The industrial permit for 206 Maple Avenue involves a proposal to construct a steel commercial building to maintain high-end sports and race cars on the property.
The company is VelocityAP, a global manufacturer of performance exhaust and tuning products for exotic cars.
President Stuart Dickinson said they plan to cater to Area 27 racetrack members.
Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Cowan said the company will not make any changes to the existing chain link and barb wire fencing on the lot, which is currently vacant.
She also noted there is no landscaping plan because most of the lot will be utilized for car storage purposes.
Mayor Ron Hovanes said the proposal was exciting to see.
“It’s a neat thing to have parachuting into our neighbourhood.”
But Councillor Petra Veintimilla questioned the fact that three-quarters of the lot will be used by (car) storage trailers.
She said that council may consider asking for better screening. But Dickinson said the trailers will be “aesthetically on point.” He noted the trailers, combined with the building, will “raise the bar” in terms of visual appearance.
He also noted there will be a security system in place, adding the facility will likely see people there seven days a week. “There will be a lot of coming and going,” Dickinson said.
