Dear Editor:

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the recent developments on our local political scene.

While I concur with many of the comments made in your editorial in the October 15 edition of the Osoyoos Times regarding the service given to our community by Mayor Stu Wells, I am amused by the political gamemanship leading up to the last minute filing for mayor.

We, as the electorate, are naturally supposed to take at face value that this all transpired in the final moments of the filing deadline.

Whether it was to discourage others to file for mayor, we will never know. Even if that was not the intent, the appearance of the last minute jockeying confirms that, once again, politics can be a tough game.

Regardless of how one views this development, we owe a vote of thanks to those who have given of their time, for very little reward, to serve our town.

This not only includes those stepping down from council, but also to those that are prepared to give four years of their lives, with very little remuneration, to serve our community.

That is one of the good things in politics.

Thank you.
