We wanted to publicly express our appreciation for the hard and unfaltering work performed by all the emergency service workers who have spent so much of their time keeping us safe.
Thank you to Willowbrook and Okanagan Falls fire halls (I am not sure if Osoyoos was here).
Thank you also to the pilots who are constantly in harm’s way during drops; when you can see the top of the wings of a four engine aircraft as it dives, you know the pilot is pushing the aircraft to its design limits.
Bucketing carries its own special risks as the pilot changes the dynamics of the helicopter by taking on a load. Thank you also to ESS, SAR and the RCMP for taking care of us during the evacuation.
We especially want to thank the Oliver Fire Department. Although many residents appreciate the work performed by our local and neighbouring departments they will never truly understand the physical and emotional pressures that are part of firefighting.
Fire calls always seem to come in threes but Oliver’s firefighters set a new benchmark with all the responses they made.
Pat and Linda Hampson, Oliver
