Two young sisters from Oliver are seeking adventure and a little fame as they try out for a television series that emphasizes teamwork.
Rose and Amy Tite recently auditioned for the Grizzly Cup, a competitive obstacle course for kids.
The trials were held in Kelowna, where teams had to navigate various challenges as quickly as possible.
The sisters saw the casting call advertised on television and decided to go for it.
“It looked like an adventure, and I like a challenge,” said 11-year-old Amy, who is a junior triathlete.
Her 13-year-old sister, Rose, also likes adventuring.
“Not many exciting things happen around here, so I think it (Grizzly Cup) will be a good challenge to work as a team.”
The siblings performed well during the audition, which featured several obstacles including a plastic wrecking ball that they had to dodge. Their climbing skills were also put to the test.
The girls’ best time for the course was 36 seconds, while their younger brothers, Jeremy and Gavin, completed it in 40 seconds.
Rose said the Grizzly Cup is looking for teams that demonstrate strength and survival, which the girls have. But she admitted the odds of being picked for the show among thousands of kids is slim.
Their mother, Irene Tite, is proud of her children taking the initiative.
“I think it’s a good experience. It gives them confidence and teaches them to get along.”
Irene said she makes it a point to ensure her children spend time being active every day. They often ride their bikes to the Oliver pool.
Amy said the audition taught her a lot about teamwork and “trying new things.” It also brought her and Rose closer together, she admitted. But both agreed they will probably still fight over who does the chores around the house.
When asked what they want to do when they get older, Rose and Amy indicated their passion for animals. “I want to work with animals,” said Rose, getting a quick nod from Amy.
