The Osoyoos Desert Centre is once again presenting a unique nighttime experience titled “A Walk in the Dark” on Oct. 2.
The event gives participants the chance to enjoy a fun-filled walk under the cover of darkness along Desert Centre’s 1.5 km boardwalk.
Using UV flashlights as the only light source the group will try to spot some of the night critters of the area’s semi-arid desert including deer, owls, bats and the glowing exoskeletons of Northern scorpions.
“These night tours are so popular,” notes Jayme Friedt, Osoyoos Desert Centre Executive Director. “As you can imagine, it’s very exhilarating walking through the quiet desert atmosphere in the dark.
“Wildlife is very unpredictable, so we never know if we’re going to spot any but it’s a lot of fun listening and learning about the nocturnal critters of the South Okanagan”.
The event is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 8 – 9:30 p.m. Admission for A Walk in the Dark night tours is $20 per person and space is limited. Participants must pre-register through the Desert Centre office at 250-495-2470 by Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Tours start at 8 p.m. sharp and the gates will be locked once the tour starts. The event will be held rain or shine with participants advised to dress appropriately for the weather and nighttime temperatures.
The Osoyoos Desert Centre is located at 14580 – 146 Avenue, 3 km north of Osoyoos off Highway 97. For more information call 250-495-2470, visit their website or email [email protected].
