BC tree-fruit growers are getting more support from the provincial government to help fortify their orchards against the increasing incidence of extreme weather.
The provincial government has teamed up with Okanagan fruit growers – and farmers across this region and province – with new programs with the goal to ensure the short-term and long-term viability of the tree fruit industry in this region.
The Province is committing up to $70 million in support to help climate change affected BC farmers producing grapes, tree fruit and berries, including establishing a wine-grape task force and loosening up restrictions around wine consumption and sales.
While many Kelowna fruit growers are unhappy with BC Tree Fruits, Oliver growers have a reason to celebrate. That’s because of the confirmed expansion and upgrade of the cooperative’s packinghouse here.
