A proposed expansion of the Super 8 Motel will come before council Tuesday as the town considers issuing a development permit.

The new three-storey wing at the southwest corner of the property will add 26 new suites to the motel off Highway 3 near Peanut Lake (Peanut Pond).

Town planning staff is recommending that council issue the permit, however council’s decision was not known when the Osoyoos Times went to press. The regular council meeting was moved to Tuesday due to the long weekend.

The new wing adds 1,242 square metres (13,371 square feet) of floor space. Once the project is completed, the hotel will have 66 parking stalls.

In a report to council, Senior Planner Francesca Sanna said the property was rezoned to tourist commercial in 2009, which allows this expansion.

The location is between the existing motel and Highway 3.
