Dark clouds and the occasional spitting drizzle didn’t stop more than 50 people from coming out and enjoying the street dance last Friday, Aug. 21.

The Osoyoos Seniors Centre Association hosted the dance, which turned the parking lot outside the Osoyoos and District Museum and Archives into a hours-long dance party, complete with prizes, contests and a whole lotta shakin’.

According to Bonnie Rhys of the Seniors Centre, last Friday was the last final time the centre will host the Osoyoos tradition, as it has had trouble securing enough volunteers.

She said she is hopeful another organization in town will take up the street dance, and keep the tradition going.

The street dances were originally started almost 30 years ago by Frances and Larry Sologuk, owners of Osoyoos Home Hardware. The Osoyoos Seniors Centre took them over in 2013.
