Dear Editor:

It was an interesting article in the paper a few weeks back on local road and signage issues.

I’m sure there are many, however the most serious one in my opinion is the first block of Highway 97 heading north from the Highway 3 intersection. It is far too fast.

I ask anyone to show me another example where you can see an 80-km/h speed sign when you are stopped at lights.

I’m unsure if this contributed to the recent accident with tragic consequences. I’m sure it didn’t help.

I happen to live in this block, so I see it constantly, with never ending antics. Horns, complete failure to merge, three vehicles abreast in two lanes, U-turns every five minutes. You name it.

I took my concerns to the Ministry of Transportation a while back and they initially ignored me. Then after constant emails, they finally responded.

They claim an expert from Kamloops came down and personally viewed the area and found the speed appropriate.

I’m calling BS. They probably never left their desk.

I invite anyone to grab a lawn chair and observe this for themselves, especially this time of year. It’s never ending.

My neighbours are in full agreement. We take our lives in our hands trying to enter our driveways.

This stretch is far too fast. It should be 60 km/h at best.
