The SOSS hornets played in the valley championships this past weekend at Westside in Kamloops.
After a four-hour bus ride we had a slow start to our first game and ended up losing to Seaton.
After that the boys got fired up and followed up the next day crushing Fulton 83-44. Then the Hornets pulled through and came up with another big win against Kalamalka, defeating them 56-44.
This brought them to the consolation final against George Elliott. It was a tough game and I don’t know how we did it but the Hornets pulled through one last time to beat George Elliott 47-46.
The last couple of possessions we were up one but somehow George Elliott scored and we were down one. We came back with 40 seconds left and missed two three-pointers, got the ball back then missed a mid-range shot and got the ball back again. Then we missed another two inside shots around the key with the clock running out.
We somehow got the ball back one last time. Then in the last second Joey Khangura got the ball and put up a quick inside shot with a hope and a prayer and the buzzer goes and the ball falls in the hoop. We won by one with a buzzer beater and the boys and crowd went wild.
I am so proud of these boys. We set a goal to go to provincials and we achieved that goal. These boys have broken the drought and the Hornets are going to the provincials once again to represent SOSS and the Okanagan. I can’t believe they did it. Let’s go, Hornets!
