Community non-profits across Boundary-Similkameen are getting a boost from nearly $340,000 in provincial funding which will support their local work in environmental conservation and public safety.
The funding is part of $11 million from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants to boost conservation and public safety programs.
“Local organizations that keep people, wildlife, and the environment safe and healthy make a big difference to our communities. It’s great to see these grants going to organizations across Boundary-Similkameen, from Christina Lake all the way to Princeton,” said MLA Roly Russell. “These investments go straight to the community groups that are working so hard to ensure that this remains a great place to live.”
Organizations in Boundary-Similkameen receiving funding from the provincial government include:
· Christina Lake Stewardship Society
· Grand Forks Search and Rescue Society
· South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls (S.O.R.C.O.)
· Oliver/Osoyoos Search and Rescue Society
· Osoyoos Desert Society
· Hayes Creek Firefighters’ Association
· Erris Volunteer Fire Association
· Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society
· Boundary Invasive Species Society
This year, the province is allocating approximately $4.8 million to over 130 environment sector organizations doing work in areas like environmental education and wild animal rescue, and $6.3 million to over 130 public safety organizations to help with their work providing emergency and lifesaving services and more.
